Easy Read & Learning Disability Training
CHANGE’s experienced team delivers engaging and rewarding training on accessible information, easy read creation and learning disability awareness, online or in person.
At CHANGE we are guided by the principle of ‘nothing about us without us’, all of our training is co-delivered with a person with lived experience of learning disability.
Our training sessions help organisations and staff to communicate better with people with learning disabilities and improve the service they provide to them.
Essential Training Sessions
CHANGE offers a number of essential training sessions covering Easy Read information and the broader context of the lived experience of people with learning disabilities. Understanding this is an important and undervalued part of making information truly accessible.

Making Information Accessible
Our half day "Making Information Accessible" provides learners with a comprehensive grounding to start creating effective Easy Read. It is based on the standards of the UK Association of Accessible Formats, which were originally produced by CHANGE in partnership with the National Equality Partnership.
The course modules recap “What is Easy Read?”, and cover “Working with Text”, “Working with Pictures”, “Accessible Design”, and “Quality Checking” before concluding with a Q&A with one of our experienced Accessible Information design team.
What is Easy Read?
A ninety minute introduction to the accessible information standard, what Easy Read is, how it’s used and why it matters.
OutSpoken! How to be Inclusive: LGBTQI+, Autism and Learning Disability.
A half day session designed for health and social care professionals covering topics such as diagnostic overshadowing, pronouns, terms and definitions and sharing stories.
Learning Disability Awareness: Disability and Empowerment
A newly updated three hour course covering topics such as statistics, employment, co-working and lived experience.
Tailored Training Sessions
CHANGE also provides training that is custom-tailored to your organisation’s needs, drawing on our 25 years of experience in producing effective Easy Read information for hundreds of organisations across all sectors, and our deep knowledge and understanding of the lived experience of people with learning disabilities.
Any of the above sessions can be modified to suit the particular requirements of your team, going into greater depth as needed, or removing elements that learners are already very familiar with. We can also deliver fully bespoke training covering any of the areas in which CHANGE and the wider Advonet organisation has expertise in.

Because we want to make good information accessible in Easy Read format to as many people as possible, we offer many resources for free, including our detailed guide on How to Make Information Accessible. We encourage you to use and share this to help ensure people with learning disabilities receive the same information as their peers, empowering them to make informed decisions about their lives.
